No sign of Japanese academic decline seen in tests

Despite criticism of the current "education with latitude" system, the results of a recent national achievement test revealed no sign of a further decline in primary and middle school students' academic abilities.

現在の「ゆとり教育」制度に対する批判があるにもかかわらず，最近行われた全国学力テスト（教育課程実施状況調査）の結果，小中学校の生徒の学力にさらなる低下は見られないことが明らかになった。

うーむ，どういうことなんでしょうかねぇ。個人的にはゆとり教育には疑問を持っているのですが，教材と教育方針，学力の相関をもっと調査・研究していく余地がありそうです。
